Instructions:

  • Sit upright in your office chair, with chest high and back straight.
  • Reach behind you with one arm, which will rotate your upper body.
  • While staying very erect, twist as far as you can go and hold.
  • Twist the other way and repeat.
  • Go both sides 2-3 times, holding for 10 seconds.

Benefits to the golf swing:

  • Increase rotation of trunk for an improve “x-factor”.
  • Loosen up lower back, to reduce strain and tightness, freeing up golf swing.
  • Improve ability to rotate upper body over a “fixed” lower body, like in your swing.

This golf flexibility exercise should be repeated reaching out for the other side of your chair.

The reason why a flexibility exercise program for golf is so effective in improving the golf swing and eliminating back pain is because they put your body in the exact same positions either rotationally or from a golf posture standpoint that stretch the muscles like no other stretch or general exercise program could do.

This will remove the tension in your swing due to restricted muscles, and enable your golf swing to feel more comfortable and free-flowing, allowing maximum clubhead speed and ultimately distance. The results will be quick and dramatic!

One of the best ways to get better at your golfing skills, is to hire the training of a pro-golf trainer. If you’re anything like me, you’re a “do it on my own” king of person. But this is in many cases the wrong approach. A pro golfer can give you specific instruction and exercises that will help you Improve a lot faster that you will on your own. It will also be a lot less painful.

So getting a golf pro to rain and instruct you on your golf swing is a great idea. Now, how do you go about finding just the right golf instructor?

There are a number of ways to do that. You can go to golf shops and look at ads or ask the shop keeper and other people who come to the shop. Another way is to go the country club or golf course and ask around. Don’t just go for the first instructor you meet, but examine a few of them. Golf Instructions for Tough Bunker Situations

Wedges aren’t the top choice for this as they provide more lift to the expense of distance. Irons are the best for this. And remember the basics of digging up sand to help in slowing the ball? The Basics Of Ball Position And Golf Swing

If you want to make a great shot, you have to have it all set up just right. The alignment of your shot is just as important as the power of your Swing. The Ball position is a really important part of getting set up to make your shot.

The Basics of Ball position in your golf swing are as follows:

- Short irons: If you’re going to use a wedge, 9-iron or 8-iron, you should put the ball right in front of you, as close to halfway between your feet as possible. The idea is that, in order to make a good clean shot with a shorter iron, you need to hit it at a steep angle. It’s always best to put a divot in front of the ball if you’re shooting with one of these clubs.

- Medium irons: For the 7, 6 or 5, you should put the ball a little forward. With a short iron, you are placing the ball directly in front of you, halfway between; take this position and move the ball one balls-length forward. Here, you should use a shallower divot.

- Long irons and fairways: Take that original position (for the short irons), and move the ball 2 ball-lengths forward. You want to hit the ball with a very slight divot, and get it right on the bottom of your swing arc.

- If you want to hit the ball on an upswing, put it 3 ball-lengths ahead of the short iron position.

You should have the ball about three-quarters of an arms length ahead of you. Different people will tell you different things, so experiment to find the most comfortable distance for you. These are just the basics, but experiment with the ball position and different irons and see what works best for you. Another thing to keep in mind is that, as you get tired, you’ll hit the shots shorter. This will result in hooks or slices. To make up for this, move the ball further back toward your right foot (for right-handed players). As you notice your shots getting shorter due to fatigue, inch that ball back a little and see if it’s more comfortable that way.

Some golfers find that they have one ball position that works for every iron. They claim that moving the ball position for different irons destroys your consistency. Advocates of one position for all shots say that changing the ball positions means you have to change your golf swing. If you use the clubs correctly, you should narrow your stance accordingly; you should never have to change the ball position.

Golfers don’t see eye to eye on much, and this is one of the big controversies about golf technique. This is why it’s important to personalize your swing and your technique, and pay close attention to what happens when you try different things.

5 Golf Swing Fallacies To Avoid

Golf is definitely a sport with a difference. The similarity between golf and other sports, such as track and field, ends at the need for a proper technique. Though professional golf may require some basic minimal physical training, the weekend golfer can achieve high degrees of success in the game without following a fitness regime at all. Concentration on a suitable technique, diligent application, avoiding common mistakes and having a positive attitude can produce excellent results in the golf swing and overall game.

When looking for golf instruction, even though someone may want to observe and imitate professionals, the fact is that though spectacular movements can be noticed, the subtle ones mostly skip even the careful observer unless you know what you are specifically looking for. The irony is that it is these subtle movements that are critical in dictating a style and perfecting the art of a swing.

This peculiar aspect of golfing has given rise to many Fallacies or myths about the mechanical principles that are used in golf. It is thus imperative to know which ones to avoid. Here we will address a few of the most commonly heard today.

1. “Relax” and “Use a Light Grip”

3. “Stop at the Top of the Swing”

Another fallacious instruction given is with regard to stopping at the top of the swing. It is an established mechanical principle that any object moving in one direction must come to a complete stop before moving in the opposite direction. Consciously stopping at the ‘top of the swing’ results in freezing of the body movement thus disrupting the rhythm that it significantly contributes to the swing.

4. “Turn Your Hips To The Left”

Don’t try and ‘turn your hips to the left’ on purpose. Hip turning does take place during a swing but more often than not, it is a natural turn after the golfer has moved laterally to the left. When golfers make an actual effort to do nothing more than turn their hips, it results in a ruined swing and poor shot.

5. “Keep Your Head Down”

This is a commonly quoted directive given by most weekend golfers. However, the head needs to instead be kept back through the golf swing and the subtle movements that occur will do so naturally. It is actually completely unnatural to try to fix your head in a locked position throughout the golf swing. By concentrating on this one point too much, you lose focus from the rest of the golf swing that actually helps to generate the power needed to drive the ball forward.
