The ever changing video game industry took a giant leap when Nintendo released the Wii in late 2006. Unlike previous video game releases from Nintendo, and others, the Wii’s distinguishing features were not improved graphics, or faster game speed, or any of the countless other innovations that have dotted the gaming landscape. Instead, Nintendo’s Wii has ushered in a new way to play video games with its revolutionary control system.

The controller of the Wii system is a hand-held, wireless remote control that has the ability to sense movements in all directions. Instead of using a traditional joystick, players move, point, swing, and gesture with the remote control, and those movements are detected by infrared sensors on the game console. The result is an interactive gaming experience that can not be had on any game system, especially when you are playing games for the Nintendo Wii because they are designed to take full advantage of all that the Wii has to offer.

Wii Sports is a game that features five game simulations – tennis, golf, baseball, boxing, and bowling – and the natural movements in sports make for a great platform for the Wii to strut its stuff, so it should come as no surprise that Nintendo included Wii Sports with each purchase of a Wii system. However, it is the games for Nintendo Wii that are not included with the game system that continue to drive people to the stores and online retailers.

At the top of the list of games for Nintendo Wii is Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which is the latest in a series of Zelda games, but the first that is compatible with the Wii system. Launched alongside the Wii, Zelda allows loyal fans to continue their adventures in ways that only the Wii can allow. Medal of Honor: Vanguard is another new release of an old favorite. Medal of Honor continues its realistic World War II “shoot em” action, while in another release everyone’s favorite hedgehog makes his Wii debut in Sonic and the Secret Rings.

Hardcore gamers consider one of the best games for Nintendo Wii to be WarioWare: Smooth Moves. Considered to be an ideal platform for all the Wii can do, WarioWare is another game that continues on an existing series. WarioWare relies on a series of microgames – games based on simple movements that can often last only a few seconds each. The player is given rapid game scenarios with instructions that hint at the required action. Making the correct movements allows the player to move on to the next game, whereas too many mistakes will force the player to start over. The concept of movements as the key to success makes this one of the most ideal games for Nintendo Wii.

Countless new games for Nintendo Wii are sure to hit the market, especially as the popularity of the game platform is growing. Regardless of the theme of the game, the unique controller is sure to make all future games for the Nintendo Wii unlike anything one could play with any other gaming system.

The popularity of golf has increased tremendously over the past forty five years, giving us champions like Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, and Tiger Woods, and world-renowned courses like Pinehurst, Augusta National and the Blue Monster at Doral.

Why has golf become so popular? It’s the opportunity to be outside, to get a good whole body workout, network with friends or business colleagues at a leisurely pace, and to play a game that you can never perfect.

Your scorecard, over time, shows your improvement, which keeps you playing again and again. Here is a very basic lesson in golf for the person who has no clue about the game.

Golf is played on an eighteen-hole course; each hole has its “par”, which is the number of tee shots (drives), fairway shots, chips (short hits as you approach the green), and putts. The par number is based on the length and difficulty of the hole. Pars range from 3 to 6. If you get the ball in the hole in five shots on a par five hole, you “made par.” If it took you six shots, it’s called a bogie, if you made it in four, it’s a birdie.

There are usually “hazards” of some sort on all the holes. Bodies of water, sand traps, and trees are strategically placed to make the hole more challenging. Beginner golfers should seek to find courses to play that are easier to play, with fewer hazards.

Each player keeps their own score, marking the number of total number of shots for each hole. At the end, each person adds their scores-the lowest number is the winner.

It is important for beginner golfers to not take themselves too seriously. It takes a long time to get good at this game; even though the professionals make it look so easy. Take a lesson or two at the onset; it will help you develop a proper swing and help you get off to a good start.

It’s never easy asking for help, but in golf, it is almost a necessity. Unfortunately, we often ask our buddies and partners, when in reality we should take a lesson or two. We think that a Pro would critique harshly, but they are honest, positive and very helpful.

Lessons at the local course aren’t as expensive as you might think and they are worth it because your game will improve rapidly and cause you less frustration, making the game much more enjoyable for you.

Of utmost importance, is being honest about your game. The Pro will ask you what you want to start with; driving, chipping, putting or whatever you feel you need help with. Listen carefully and follow the instructions. You may have doubts if the Pro changes your stance, your grip or your swing; the Pro knows best.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions. Don’t worry about if the question or concern in stupid-they’ve heard it all before and will not make you feel like an idiot for asking. If you don’t “get it”, tell him/her that you’re not getting it. You should never walk away from a lesson with unanswered questions.

You can concentrate on one thing during a lesson, or several. You might start with a lesson in driving; get the right grip, the right stance, the right swing, the right follow-through in one lesson, and then practice it. Next time, you might work on your short game, or putting.

Most of what makes or breaks a shot happens before the swing. One of the keys to unlocking your golfing potential is making sure that you have a good, tight grip on the club. A little instruction can go a long way in improving your grip.

Think of it this way: the only part of your body that touches the golf club is your hands. This is why your grip is so important. If you’re slicing, chances are you have a grip problem.

You have to keep a strong grip, but not too strong. An instructor can show you how to do this; you have to give it about 50% of your strength. This is intuitive, of course. How much is 50%? Instruction can help you to understand just how much pressure you need.

Here are some basic tips for your grip. This is a common type of beginners’ grip. You may change your grip over time, but this will at least give you a good start. You can also visit http://www.getgoodatgolf.com to get more tips.

- The club should be held in your left hand. About 60% of your finger surface should be touching the handle. As a general guideline, this should be the last three fingers of your left hand, depending on how big your hands are.

- The callous pad that you wear on your left hand should be above the grip. This is really important; you shouldn’t have it next to the grip.

- Have your left thumb next to the right side of the grip. Your thumb and index finger should form a V.

- You have to close your right hand over the left thumb, and take hold of the left side of the grip. It is difficult to understand this without some physical instruction on how to do it properly.

- Finally, keep your grip tight, but keep your arm muscles relaxed.

It sounds complicated, doesn’t it? Well, it is, and for best results you need a little instruction, even if it’s just a few pointers on how to do it. No amount of diagrams and videos can show you completely how to do it correctly; you have to really feel it.

However, there are some training tools you can use. You can buy trainer grips that will help you figure out how to grip your club if you’re a first time golfer. They retail for about $10 and come with instructions and tips.

You can also get golf tips and tutorial videos. If you don’t have time to take golf lessons with a certified instructor, this might be a good way to help you get your grip worked out.

The most common grip is the ten-finger grip, although some of the pros, such as Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, use an interlocking grip. This is a tricky one to get just right, and it’s not very common. But, it works for them!

Every golfer’s grip is slightly different from the next. And, lots of golfers gradually change their grip over time, when they find something new that works well for them. Find the grip that works for you and stick with it, but always keep your eyes open for new ideas.

Everybody needs to work on their putts. I don’t care how long you’ve been playing golf, or what kind of pro you are. We all need to practice putting. Here are some tips from the pros that will help you get your putting up to par. Try some of these and see what works best!

- Always do a couple practice putts before you start your game. Don’t try to make a hole; just get the ball in the general direction. Focus on your swing, not making the hole. By doing some practice putts, you can also get a feel for how fast the ball will run on the green. Visit http://www.getgoodatgolf.com to learn more golf tips and instructions.

- Practice easy putts. Don’t worry about making a long shot. Definitely practice a few long ones, but for the most part, stick to within 6-feet. Missing every practice putt will only hurt your confidence, and there’s more to a good putt than just making the hole.

- It’s amazing how much confidence has to do with putting. In golf, more than any other sport, player confidence is key. And, it’s a problem that amateurs and pros alike have to deal with. Keep this in mind when you’re putting, and train yourself to stay confident, even when the ball doesn’t go where you want it to.

- Don’t look at the ball when you’re making your target – look just ahead of the ball. Focus on a spot right in front, a spot that you want that ball to roll over. After you hit it, you’ll know if you’ve made the shot or not by whether you see it cross that spot.

- Don’t move! Check your position before the shot and make sure it’s perfect. But, don’t move out of your position until the ball is well on its way. If you get impatient and want to watch that ball fly toward the hole, you may straighten up too fast and lose control over your putt.

- There are some ways you can keep yourself from naturally following that ball and ruining your putt. For example, look at the spot the ball was on, after it rolls off. To practice this, you can lay a coin under the ball, and keep your eyes on the coin after the ball has rolled completely off.

- When you’re practicing, there are putting drills you can do. For example, put in 5 balls from a distance of 1 foot; then move back a foot. Then another and another, and if you miss one shot, you have to start the whole thing over again from one foot.

- For some really deep, heavy-duty putting practice, close your eyes when you putt. With your eyes closed, you’ll be more aware of the way the rest of your body moves. You’ll feel your torso twist and your shoulders swing steadily, just like a pendulum with the club swinging from it.

- Practice like crazy. That’s the best golf putting tip anybody can give you. The longer you’re out there practicing, the more you’ll develop a feel for it. Like everything else, practice makes perfect!

In fact there is no single genuine golf exercise program that does not include flexibility exercises. That is how critical flexibility training for golf is.

Flexibility programs for golf are becoming very popular, but there are many that do not effectively improve golfers’ golf swing and performance. There is a reason this occurs. If flexibility exercises are not are not specific to the golf swing and its physical requirements, they will not be effective in improving golf swing flexibility and range of motion.

There are many types of flexibility exercises for golf. Some of them can comfortably be done in the office while you are still seated on your chair in your workstation. And probably when you have a few minutes to spare or you need to spend a moment or two thinking about something, maybe a decision you have to make. You can easily do your thinking as you execute the simple golf flexibility exercise.

One of the exercises that can be done in this situation is twisting your upper body to reach and touch as far back on one side of the chair as you can. I do this one in my office when I want to take a break from the grind of running my golf training website and shipping products.

Instructions:

Sit upright in your office chair, with chest high and back straight.

Reach behind you with one arm, which will rotate your upper body.

While staying very erect, twist as far as you can go and hold.

Twist the other way and repeat.

Go both sides 2-3 times, holding for 10 seconds.

Benefits to the golf swing:

Increase rotation of trunk for an improve “x-factor”.

Loosen up lower back, to reduce strain and tightness, freeing up golf swing.

Improve ability to rotate upper body over a “fixed” lower body, like in your swing.

This golf flexibility exercise should be repeated reaching out for the other side of your chair.

There are also golf flexibility exercise that can be done with tubing, and a stability ball. Others are done using a medicine ball. Most of them are described in other golf exercise articles I have written on my site.

The reason why a flexibility exercise program for golf is so effective in improving the golf swing and eliminating back pain is because they put your body in the exact same positions either rotationally or from a golf posture standpoint that stretch the muscles like no other stretch or general exercise program could do.

This will remove the tension in your swing due to restricted muscles, and enable your golf swing to feel more comfortable and free-flowing, allowing maximum clubhead speed and ultimately distance. The results will be quick and dramatic!

There are dozens and dozens of effective golf flexibility exercise for golf that will have a profound impact on your golf swing, game and body. There is no denying golf is a physical game, and you need to work on your “machine” to maximize your results.

One of the best ways to get better at your golfing skills, is to hire the training of a pro-golf trainer. If you’re anything like me, you’re a “do it on my own” king of person. But this is in many cases the wrong approach. A pro golfer can give you specific instruction and exercises that will help you improve a lot faster that you will on your own. It will also be a lot less painful.

So getting a golf pro to rain and instruct you on your golf swing is a great idea. Now, how do you go about finding just the right golf instructor?

There are a number of ways to do that. You can go to golf shops and look at ads or ask the shop keeper and other people who come to the shop. Another way is to go the country club or golf course and ask around. Don’t just go for the first instructor you meet, but examine a few of them. Try to watch them as they give lessons to other students, and than ask yourself – is this an instructor I would like to work with?

When hiring a golf instructor, it’s important you take a few lessons with them and ask yourself – do I have good communication with this gold pro? If you feel there remains a communication gap between two of you, there is no harm in parting ways and looking for a new gold instructor. Even your current pro may be able to make a recommendation if you just explain to him/her your difficulties in a polite and respectful manner.

When you do find a good instructor you want to work with, don’t make the mistake of thinking that you can have the perfect swing in just a few sessions. It takes a lot more than that to improve your game significantly. Every student has his/her own pace, and golf techniques take time to learn, and even more time to perfect. Always listen to your gold trainer, and don’t waste your and his time by neglecting to implement his instructions. Your instructor will also recommend additional practice time, and you will be wise to listed to this advice and take advantage of this.

If your gold pro does a good job, there is no harm in giving them a nice tip or bonus. It’s worthwhile to keep in mind that golf pro’s take much pride in their work and profession. They also have a lot of passion to the game and if you show similar passion and respect their skill, you will get a lot in return.

Assessing one’s playing properties is the first step towards being adept at playing golf. Certain personal factors should be identified and if necessary, corrected. Golf is a game of relative precision. There’s a little room for error in golf.

Power is always an issue in golf. Everyone wants to have more power, more delivery on drives. Even Tiger Woods have been silently assessing his chances for more power with a new graphite golf club. Though golf clubs like woods do have properties suitable for longer drives, the shorter irons give the needed control that is somewhat difficult on a typical wood. The trade-off though is lesser power.

By building a stronger grip, you can still deliver powerful strokes with an iron. A weak gripping is often characterized by one or two knuckles shown on your left hand during the address. This grip kills any power you might have built as you commence your swing. To correct this, turn your left hand towards the right until three knuckles are visible. This will afford more ball power and flight since it will keep you slinging the club head at the ball until its fullest position.

An efficient golf instructional glove like Rick Smith’s Golf Gloves is suitable for gripping familiarity. It braces your wrist to the correct position as you make you swing but won’t inhibit wrist movement. The good thing about this golf instructional tool is that it can be worn even during your regular play. You can purchase this online at: www.birdieball.com. This golf teaching tool costs $36.95.

Another neat golf instructional device is the Super Swing Trainer. It is actually a metal frame that you can use to guide your swings, every type and power of swing. By having a guide as you practice your swing, in no time consistent golf swings will almost be automatic. This golf teaching tool costs $159.99 at www.superswingtrainer.com.

Golf Instructions for Tough Bunker Situations

Bunkers along the green aren’t that hard. In fact, it has become a standard ball trapping technique for long drives towards the green. But even if you are good at handling situations like this, bunkers that are located about 50 yards from the green isn’t the same scenario.

Wedges aren’t the top choice for this as they provide more lift to the expense of distance. Irons are the best for this. And remember the basics of digging up sand to help in slowing the ball? That won’t apply here. Hit the ball squarely as you should in any other terrain. But compensate a little bit loft to clear the trap.

About the basics of bunker close to the green; it is a standard technique that you dig way beneath the golf ball, bringing some of the sand. This would help in slowing down the ball especially useful of bunkers beside the green.

If you want to make a great shot, you have to have it all set up just right. The alignment of your shot is just as important as the power of your swing. The ball position is a really important part of getting set up to make your shot.

The basics of ball position in your golf swing are as follows:

- Short irons: If you’re going to use a wedge, 9-iron or 8-iron, you should put the ball right in front of you, as close to halfway between your feet as possible. The idea is that, in order to make a good clean shot with a shorter iron, you need to hit it at a steep angle. It’s always best to put a divot in front of the ball if you’re shooting with one of these clubs.

- Medium irons: For the 7, 6 or 5, you should put the ball a little forward. With a short iron, you are placing the ball directly in front of you, halfway between; take this position and move the ball one balls-length forward. Here, you should use a shallower divot.

- Long irons and fairways: Take that original position (for the short irons), and move the ball 2 ball-lengths forward. You want to hit the ball with a very slight divot, and get it right on the bottom of your swing arc.

- If you want to hit the ball on an upswing, put it 3 ball-lengths ahead of the short iron position.

You should have the ball about three-quarters of an arms length ahead of you. Different people will tell you different things, so experiment to find the most comfortable distance for you. This is something you’ll get the hang of and adjust according to your own swinging style eventually. Visit http://www.getgoodatgolf.com to get more golf tips and instructions.

These are just the basics, but experiment with the ball position and different irons and see what works best for you. Another thing to keep in mind is that, as you get tired, you’ll hit the shots shorter. This will result in hooks or slices. To make up for this, move the ball further back toward your right foot (for right-handed players). As you notice your shots getting shorter due to fatigue, inch that ball back a little and see if it’s more comfortable that way.

Some golfers find that they have one ball position that works for every iron. They claim that moving the ball position for different irons destroys your consistency. Advocates of one position for all shots say that changing the ball positions means you have to change your golf swing. If you use the clubs correctly, you should narrow your stance accordingly; you should never have to change the ball position.

Golfers don’t see eye to eye on much, and this is one of the big controversies about golf technique. This is why it’s important to personalize your swing and your technique, and pay close attention to what happens when you try different things.

Golf is definitely a sport with a difference. The similarity between golf and other sports, such as track and field, ends at the need for a proper technique. Though professional golf may require some basic minimal physical training, the weekend golfer can achieve high degrees of success in the game without following a fitness regime at all. Concentration on a suitable technique, diligent application, avoiding common mistakes and having a positive attitude can produce excellent results in the golf swing and overall game.

When looking for golf instruction, even though someone may want to observe and imitate professionals, the fact is that though spectacular movements can be noticed, the subtle ones mostly skip even the careful observer unless you know what you are specifically looking for. The irony is that it is these subtle movements that are critical in dictating a style and perfecting the art of a swing.

This peculiar aspect of golfing has given rise to many fallacies or myths about the mechanical principles that are used in golf. It is thus imperative to know which ones to avoid. Here we will address a few of the most commonly heard today.

1. “Relax” and “Use a Light Grip”

A very natural combination of a ‘relax’ and ‘light grip’ is often used by instructors teaching the golf swing today. Even though ‘light grip’ relates naturally with ‘relax’, the admonition to ‘relax’ actually became standard with golf instructors in order to loosen up their students who were self conscious and frightened to the point of rigidity. Over time these instructions seem to be issued to anyone who starts a training session. However, inability to use these techniques in the correct perspective can do more harm than good.

2. “Be Loose”

Another common instruction, ‘be loose’, may sound the same as “relax” yet is very different. The swing can be loose even if you are not totally relaxed. A loose swing is the outcome of a big hip turn on the backswing or a sway, bad wrist and foot movement and a certain type of grip.

3. “Stop at the Top of the Swing”

Another fallacious instruction given is with regard to stopping at the top of the swing. It is an established mechanical principle that any object moving in one direction must come to a complete stop before moving in the opposite direction. Consciously stopping at the ‘top of the swing’ results in freezing of the body movement thus disrupting the rhythm that it significantly contributes to the swing.

4. “Turn Your Hips To The Left”

Don’t try and ‘turn your hips to the left’ on purpose. Hip turning does take place during a swing but more often than not, it is a natural turn after the golfer has moved laterally to the left. When golfers make an actual effort to do nothing more than turn their hips, it results in a ruined swing and poor shot.

5. “Keep Your Head Down”

This is a commonly quoted directive given by most weekend golfers. However, the head needs to instead be kept back through the golf swing and the subtle movements that occur will do so naturally. It is actually completely unnatural to try to fix your head in a locked position throughout the golf swing. By concentrating on this one point too much, you lose focus from the rest of the golf swing that actually helps to generate the power needed to drive the ball forward.

You need not be a professional golfer to improve your golf swing and scores quicly. Better and more consistent golf can be played by the weekend golfer by simply heeding some good advice and practicing sound discipline. The important thing to note is to follow the modern techniques that have evolved over the years, avoid fallacious outdated instructions and learn to manage the game properly.
