In my opinion, Nicklaus’ hinge, and thus the LAG, came from his dynamic transition into the downswing. By aggressively moving into his left side to start the downswing, Nicklaus was able to retain the angle of his wrist set and, most importantly, the ‘load’ of his clubshaft, better than anyone who’s played the game. Even as an older player, Nicklaus’ dynamics allowed him to load the shaft as well as anyone.
